Assuming you have a more professional website to showcase your product, starting a blog to put a more personal face to your business can go a long way.  Your first site wouldn’t be conducive to personal stories, but people do get interested in your life.  You don’t have to write a lot either.  You could mention something funny about your cat or dog, maybe sling up a picture.  Same goes for a visit with grandkids, or something funny your child did.  This gives you credibility as a human being who has shared experience with others.  Adding content once a week and having people sign up for reminders gives you their contact info too.  It’s a win win.

Then you can link back to your professional site number One so they familiarize themselves with your product.

This is a very valid point. The more human (not necessarily all business) you appear to your clients, the more they can relate to you and know you can understand their needs.

I definitely wouldn’t bring personal stuff into a corporate setting, but if you’re selling to customers directly, I think it helps to have a separate blog for this.  And with sites like Blogger that make it easy and cheap (free!), why not try it!  It does take thought and organization though.

I agree with Cori. Talking about how your cute son won a baseball game has no place in a corporate blog.  Tying in discussion about kids and animals to real estate market is ideal.  You can appear human and friendly without discussing your personal life.

I agree with two things about this.  I like blogger, it is easy and free.  Also, I would only blog about personal events if I felt I could do this and maintain an image of professionalism with my clients.
